MAJOR BREAKING: Veteran Reliever Returns From Injury To Strengthen Cubs Bullpen For 2025 Stretch…

Posted on July 9, 2025

The Chicago Cubs have officially activated right-handed pitcher Ryan Brasier from the 15-day injured list, signaling the return of a key bullpen arm ahead of their upcoming series. Brasier’s activation on May 23, 2025, comes after a lengthy recovery from a left groin strain that sidelined him since late March.

Brasier was initially placed on the injured list retroactive to March 25 after making a lone appearance in the Cubs’ season opener in Tokyo against the Los Angeles Dodgers. In that outing, he pitched one inning, allowing two hits, one run, and a walk. Following the injury, Brasier embarked on a rehab assignment with the Triple-A Iowa Cubs to regain his form and conditioning.

During his rehab stint, Brasier appeared in six games with Iowa, where he posted encouraging numbers. Over 5⅔ innings, he allowed just two runs, struck out six batters, and maintained a solid 3.18 ERA. His performance demonstrated readiness to rejoin the major league roster and contribute to the Cubs’ bullpen depth.

To make room for Brasier’s return, the Cubs optioned right-handed pitcher Ethan Roberts to Triple-A Iowa. Roberts had appeared in five games for Chicago earlier this season but hadn’t pitched since being recalled on May 20. The roster move underscores the Cubs’ commitment to bolstering their relief corps as they push through the season.

Brasier, 37, was acquired by the Cubs in a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers during the offseason and was expected to play a significant role in the bullpen. His return brings veteran experience and additional depth at a critical time for the Cubs, who have faced several bullpen challenges this season.

With Brasier back in the fold, the Cubs look to stabilize their pitching staff and improve their late-inning performances. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how the veteran right-hander reintegrates into the Cubs’ bullpen and impacts their push toward the playoffs.
