JUST IN: Giants Land Exceptional Talent To Fix Their Biggest problem Ahead Of …

Posted on July 9, 2025

The New York Giants addressed several key weaknesses during the 2025 offseason, making major strides to improve their roster. They overhauled their quarterback group and strengthened the defense with the addition of Abdul Carter, the No. 3 overall draft pick. However, tight end remains an area in need of improvement.

Last season, the Giants struggled with an underwhelming trio at tight end — Theo Johnson, Daniel Bellinger, and Chris Manhertz — none of whom made a significant impact. Johnson started 11 of 12 games and managed just 29 catches on 43 targets, generating a modest passer rating of 88.4 when targeted.Kyle Pitts TE Atlanta FalconsBellinger and Manhertz were even less effective, combining for only 17 receptions across 17 games. It’s clear the Giants need another reliable weapon in the passing game — and Kyle Pitts might be the ideal trade target.

The Atlanta Falcons’ tight end has reportedly drawn interest from multiple teams this offseason, and Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox recently ranked him fifth on his NFL trade block big board — a reflection of his potential value.

The Giants should strongly consider pursuing Pitts. Both Johnson and Bellinger earned disappointing PFF grades in 2024 (53.6 and 57.2), placing them outside the top 50 at the position. Pitts, though inconsistent and prone to drops (17 in four seasons), has demonstrated elite receiving talent. He made the Pro Bowl as a rookie in 2021 with over 1,000 yards and an 80.3 PFF grade, fifth among NFL tight ends that year.

Although Pitts has spent more time as an inline tight end lately — a role that doesn’t play to his strengths — he remains a dynamic receiving threat both from the slot and outside. The Giants could likely acquire him for a late Day 2 pick, which would be a low-risk move with high upside.

Right now, Malik Nabers is the Giants’ only legitimate playmaker through the air. While Darius Slayton signed a three-year, $36 million extension this offseason, he produced just 573 yards and two touchdowns in 2024 and has never topped 770 yards in a season.

Pitts, just 24 years old, could immediately step in as the Giants’ No. 2 target and take pressure off Nabers. He also offers long-term value as a potential cornerstone alongside rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart.

The main obstacle is the Giants’ tight salary cap situation. Pitts would expect a new contract if traded, which could complicate matters. However, the front office could structure the deal to defer cap hits and make the finances work.

Even if the Giants aren’t a Super Bowl contender in 2025, adding a high-upside pass catcher like Pitts could help build a more competitive offense for years to come.
