BREAKING NEWS: Chicago Cubs owner Thomas S. Ricketts announces $15.3 Million stadium renovation project that will redefine arena standards to deliver a world-class fan experience leading up to the explosive 2027 All-Star Game at Wrigley Field…

Posted on July 12, 2025

In a bold move that signals Chicago’s commitment to elevating the baseball fan experience, Cubs owner Thomas S. Ricketts has announced a $15.3 million stadium renovation project aimed at transforming Wrigley Field into a next-generation, world-class venue — just in time for the 2027 MLB All-Star Game.

Wrigley Field, often referred to as “The Friendly Confines,” will soon become the epicenter of cutting-edge design, premium fan amenities, and sustainability-first features — all while honoring the rich tradition of one of baseball’s most iconic landmarks.

A Classic, Reinvented

“Wrigley is sacred ground,” said Ricketts during the press conference. “But that doesn’t mean it can’t evolve. We’re not tearing pages from the history books — we’re writing new chapters.”

The renovation, set to begin during the 2026 offseason, will focus on:

360-Degree Concourse Expansion: Fans will enjoy seamless, panoramic movement with open views of the field no matter where they stand.

Culinary & Beverage Upgrades: A new slate of Chicago-born food vendors, craft beer lounges, and rooftop cocktail spaces will debut.

Smart Stadium Integration: Real-time stat overlays, AR-enhanced jumbotrons, mobile order delivery, and instant seat upgrades via app.

ADA Overhaul: Enhanced accessibility with redesigned seating, elevators, and ramps across all tiers.

Green Energy Investment: Solar panels, LED lighting, water-saving restrooms, and a commitment to net-zero emissions by 2028.

Countdown to the 2027 Midsummer Classic

With the 2027 MLB All-Star Game returning to Wrigley for the first time since 1990, the Cubs front office views this renovation as more than a facelift — it’s a statement.

“This All-Star Game is about showcasing the best of baseball,” Ricketts added. “By then, Wrigley will be the best place to watch it.”

The move has already drawn rave reviews from MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, who praised the Cubs for “leading the way in combining tradition and innovation.”

Players have chimed in too. Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong said, “I already love playing here. But knowing what’s coming — it’s going to be electric.”

Funding and Timeline

The privately funded $15.3 million project will be financed by the Ricketts family and revenue from partnerships and naming rights for concourse-level upgrades — with no city tax burden.

Construction begins October 2026, and is expected to wrap by April 2027, just in time for Opening Day and three months ahead of the All-Star festivities.

A New Era Dawns at Wrigley

As the Cubs continue to rise in the standings and look poised for postseason contention in the coming seasons, this stadium project underscores a broader message: the North Side is not just about nostalgia anymore — it’s about the future.

Whether it’s contending for a World Series or hosting the league’s biggest stars in 2027, Chicago is ready for the spotlight.
