It is a storyline that continues to be a focal point this NFL offseason, and it is centered around the New England Patriots’ wide receiver room. While they went on to add Stefon Diggs, he is going to be coming off an ACL injury, and the rest of the Patriots’ wide receivers have a lot left to prove.
For Drake Maye to be developed correctly, the Patriots can’t take any chances on not optimizing the wide receiver production this season. That is why they must look to make a trade before the season starts with the Indianapolis Colts for Josh Downs.
Indianapolis Colts Trade Josh Downs to the New England Patriots
A lot of the talk this offseason has been centered around the Colts trading Alec Pierce as the wide receiver on the trade block due to his upcoming contract situation and the team showing no effort yet to get talks in place to extend him.
Yet, it would be wise for them to make sure they keep Pierce in the fold due to his impact he has made as a wide receiver for the team early on in his NFL career.
With the New England Patriots, they should have immense interest in trading for Josh Downs instead, as Downs and Drake Maye had already played together at college during their years at North Carolina. It’s been shown that the college chemistry can carry over into the NFL and would be able to do so again.
Josh Downs is an elusive wide receiver that is coming off an improved 2024 season where he had 803 yards. For Downs, he would help the Patriots expand their offense immensely going forward and bring a different style to their wide receiver room.
